YOUR SOUL CONTEST 2024 - Celebrate Your Soul

Get ready to CELEBRATE YOU SOUL at YSC 2024!
Since 2019 the SeoulStation Dance Studio is providing a space for many K-POP Cover Dancers to do what they love most.
We’re very excited to now also be able to provide a space for the desire to create something of their own.

After a very successful year 2023, including the first YSC as well as the YSC 1.5 at Polaris Convention, we are embarking on the journey towards the 2nd YOUR SOUL CONTEST on May 5th 2024!

Enjoy the special concept of YSC for exciting performances now with revised rules and many new possibilities to write your own personal story on our stage and combine the two worlds of K-POP Cover dance and K-POP Self choreo.

Categories and Rules

There are 3 different categories: Solo und Duo, as well as the Group category starting at 3 members.
The best 15 solo, 10 duo and 10 group contestants will be determined by means of an application video and will get the chance to perform an unforgettable stage at the YSC!
At the in-person event in Hamburg on the 5th of May 2024 there will be 2 rounds: a preliminary and a final round.

The following contains all rules and regulations for sign up and the in-person contest.

Sign up

The sign ups  are open from the 1st of November 2023 until the 2nd of January 2024.

Registration fees:
Solo: 18€
Duo: 17€ per Person
Group: 16€ per Person

To register successfully, every act must submit a registration form, as well as an application video.
The video must be submitted within the registration period via WeTransfer-Link sent to seoulstationtanz@gmail.com
Participating acts will be determined after screening all application videos.

The following criteria must be adhered to:

  • ONE video of a self-made choreo of yours has to be sent in
  • The video must be at least 30 seconds in duration but does not have to be newly recorded
  • There will be no limitation to songs! No matter if title or b-side track, all songs can be used for your self-choreo and cover 
  • The videos must be recorded in one landscape take without any camera movements and have to be at least HD quality
  • The songs and choreo used in your application can, but DO NOT HAVE TO be used in your performance at the in-person competition. After being admitted to the contest, your songs can be changed until 3 weeks before the contest
  • In a group application only 1 person can be missing from the video
  • Per person you’re allowed to participate in each category once
  • Our judging criteria for screening include energy and control, technique, creativity (self choreo), synchronisation (duo & group) and facial expressions. Outfits will not be judged in the application video screening.

Note: The registration fee is to be paid upon approval of participation for the in-person contest. After receipt of payment participation in the contest is binding. A refund can only be made in an emergency or non-occurrence of the event.

Preliminary Round

  • Your performance contains a Cover and a Choreo part. Both parts should be connected through a fitting concept.
  • The duration of your performance should be a minimum of 3 Minutes and a maximum of 4 Minutes.
  • The ratio of both parts can differ by 60:40
  • The following division would be possible:
    Performance of 4 minutes: Cover = 2:24 minutes + Choreo = 1:36 minutes
  • There will be no limitation to songs! No matter if title or b-side track, all songs can be used for your self-choreo and cover
  • You mix can contain a maximum of 2 songs for the cover portion and 2 songs for the choreo portion
  • Within one song it is not allowed to mix choreo & cover
  • The order of the songs does not matter (eg. Cover-Cover-Choreo, Choreo-Cover-Choreo-Cover etc.)
  • Cutting and reorganization within the songs is allowed 
  • Additional transitions between the songs (max. 5 seconds) can be added to your mix and will not be counted as a separate song
  • Your mix can contain any genre of song and dance
  • All songs by any Korean Artist and K-POP associated artists (e.g.: XG, WayV) regardless of language can be used
  • Each song can occur a maximum of only 2 times in the entire contest
    This does not apply to your application, after acceptance to the in-person event it’s first come first served.
    Should your song be taken already, a change is in order to participate at the event.
  • The original member count of your cover song does not matter

Finale

  • All participants will receive a 1 minute long music mix arranged by us containing one choreo and one cover song
  • The mix will be made up of 60% cover and 40% choreo
  • The mix will be the same for all participants in one category but will vary between each category. The solo category will receive a different mix from the one the group or duo categories will receive
  • The mix will be sent out simultaneously to the acceptance mail so all participants will be able to prepare the final performance alongside their self chosen preliminary performance
  • 5 acts of each category will move on to the finale
  • The order in which the finalists will perform will be drawn by lot

Definition: Self-Choreo

The choreography must be a sequence of steps composed by yourself or your coach.

Comparable to the concept of a regular dance championship.
Compositions that do not adhere to this rule or have a lot of similarities to other sources (like YouTube videos) will be disqualified immediately. This can also happen retroactively. This is especially important to maintain fairness.
